Patristic scholar Johannes Quasten has called The Life of Antony "the most important document of early monasticism." Written in the fourth century by Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria, the text was instrumental in the conversion of many and served as a model of subsequent saints' lives. This volume includes, side by side, translations of the Greek text written by Athanasius and the Coptic text from a translation back into the language that St Antony himself spoke.
