Policies
Thank you for your interest in publishing with Saint Vladimir’s Seminary Press! The SVS Press Submissions Committee reviews submissions on a monthly basis. Materials received by the first of each month are considered in that month’s review cycle, with decisions typically communicated by the end of the month.Submissions received after the first will be carried forward to the next cycle. For example, a submission received after May 1 would be reviewed in June, with a decision typically communicated by the end of that month.
Submission GuidelinesPlease follow the guidelines below. Submissions that do not meet these requirements may be returned prior to review.
· Eligibility As a matter of editorial focus, we publish only works rooted in the Christian Orthodox faith.
Within this scope, we do not consider novels or other works of fiction. Children’s books are not being accepted at this time. Doctoral dissertations may be submitted only if they have been substantially revised for a general or academic readership.
Submissions must consist of complete manuscripts; proposals or partial drafts will not be considered. Each submission must include a cover letter and curriculum vitae and be sent by email to submissions@svspress.com. · Formatting and Style Manuscripts must be submitted as Word documents (.doc or .docx). Text should follow the Chicago Manual of Style and adhere to the following formatting requirements: double-spaced text, US Letter size (8.5 × 11 inches), one-inch margins, and Unicode fonts only. Formatting should be minimal: use paragraph indents only, italics where appropriate, and properly formatted block quotations. · Review Process SVS Press uses a double-blind peer review system. Manuscripts are evaluated by specialists in the relevant field before a publication decision is made. No commitment to publication is made until this review process is complete. · Post-Acceptance If a manuscript is accepted, authors will be asked to revise it in accordance with SVS Press editorial guidelines prior to publication.
A NOTE ON FUNDING: Even if scholarly and academic evaluation is wholly favorable, financial considerations must often weigh in the decision to publish. Like all scholarly presses, SVS Press operates on modest margins, and most titles can be published only with subventions. If the author’s own university or affiliated academic body can provide a subvention, the decision to publish may be facilitated; otherwise, funding must usually be sought from a third-party donor.
Submissions for St. Vladimir’s Theological Quarterly (SVTQ)Submissions for St. Vladimir’s Theological Quarterly should follow St Vladimir’s Seminary Press house style and be sent with “SVTQ” in the subject line to svtq@svots.edu.
