SVS Press Audiobooks

SVS Press audiobooks bring the wisdom of the Orthodox Church to listeners everywhere—on commutes, during prayerful walks, and for readers who learn best by listening. Donor support has made it possible to record, produce, and distribute high-quality audiobooks that serve the Church and the wider world.

Why Audiobooks Matter

  • Accessibility: Audiobooks open Orthodox theology to people with visual impairments, learning differences, or limited reading time.
  • Formation: Hearing the Word and the Fathers read aloud deepens prayer, comprehension, and retention.
  • Reach: Audiobooks meet people where they are—at home, on the road, and across the globe.

The Genesis of Our Audiobooks

Orthodox Vision Foundation

Saint Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary (SVS) Press launched its audiobook program in 2022 through the generous sponsorship of the Orthodox Vision Foundation (OVF) and the leadership of Richard Ajalat (M.Div. ‘13). His initiative was born from a shared conviction: that the riches of Orthodox theology and spiritual life should be heard as well as read, reaching people wherever they are.

Through inaugural grants from OVF, SVS Press was able to establish the foundations of a professional audiobook program—making possible narration, recording, editing, and distribution for works essential to the life of the Church. How to Be a Sinner was the first audiobook to become available through OVF's generous grants, and was followed by other titles over the coming years, including Great Lent, For the Life of the World, The Orthodox Way, and On the Incarnation.

How Audiobooks Are Sustained Today

St. Symeon Illumination Fund

The SVS Press audiobook program is now fully supported by the St. Symeon Illumination Fund, under the auspices of SVS Press, allowing all new audiobooks to be produced with sufficient sponsorship.

The St. Symeon Illumination Fund supports:

  • Professional narration
  • Studio recording and editing
  • Production and distribution

The Fund honors the inspiration of St. Symeon the Holy Fool and St. Symeon the New Theologian. Guided by the vision of its anonymous donor—deeply committed to making Orthodox wisdom accessible to all—the Fund reflects the belief that hearing a book can open the mind to new perspectives and deepen understanding. Through the St. Symeon Illumination Fund, the wisdom of the Church is readily available to all, ensuring that no soul seeking the Light of Christ is left in darkness.
