Delving deeply and subtly into Orthodox tradition and theology, Giver of Life articulates the East's perspective on the identity of the Holy Spirit as the third Person of the Trinity. Writing with the sensibility of a poet, John Oliver reflects on the relationship of the Holy Spirit to the Church, the world, and the human person.
"John Oliver presents his readers with a vibrant picture of the person, place, and power of God's Holy Spirit in Christian life- indeed, in human life and creation generally. Commenting on the foremost prayer to the Holy Spirit in Orthodox tradition, Fr. John weaves his personal experience as priest and pastor with the testimony of Holy Scripture and the Church's theological, liturgical, sacramental and ascetical vision and practice. His enthusiasm and conviction are joind with a soundness and sobriety inspired by the very Spirit to whom he bears witness. This life-giving book will instruct, inspire and encourage all who are looking for life- in abundance." -Fr. Thomas Hopko
