The lectures, articles and recommendations published in this book are the result of an International Orthodox Education Consultation for Rural/Developing Areas, held in 1982 at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary.
The consultation focused on the possibilities for cooperative educational programs and curriculum development which would take into consideration traditional cultural values and current societal problems as we consider our faith and life in the Church.
The papers presented here are of importance to all persons interested in religious education, for the concerns expressed are certainly not limited to those of the rural or developing areas of the world. The holistic vision of life called for by each of the contributors is the basis of all Orthodox religious education. It is a vision that has been obscured in our modern secular societies, and is in danger of being obscured today in traditional societies, where they still exist.
