In this volume, the reader will find examples of the thought of some of the most creative Orthodox theologians in the contemporary world, all brought together to honor Metropolitan Philip on the occasion of his fifteenth anniversary as Primate of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America. Although each article in this collection constitutes an independent contribution to its own branch of theology, whether it be liturgics, ecclesiology, ethics, pastoral practice, church history, or biblical studies, all are united by a common vision, by the universal, all-encompassing embrace of Orthodoxy, which, as explained in the first chapter, is the true meaning of "synthesis."
The Editor:Joseph J Allen, Th.D., has for several years guided the pastoral theology programs at St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and the Holy Cross School of Theology, while serving as director of the continuing Pastoral Education commission of the Antiochian Archdiocese. The pastor of St Anthony's Orthodox Church in Bergenfield, New Jersey, Fr Allen is also the co-editor of The Word and the co-author, along with Metropolitan Philip, of Out of the Depths I Cried.
