About the author:
Archbishop Makarios of Kenya was born in 1945 in Limassol, Cyprus. He studied theology at the Saint Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute in Paris and later earned a Ph.D from Oxford under the direction of Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware). In 1977, His Eminence was sent to Kenya to organize and open an Orthodox seminary in Nairobi. In 1992, he was consecrated as Bishop of Riruta. In 2001, he was elected Metropolitan of Narobi and the Archdiocese of Kenya. On October 14, 2017, he was given the title of Elder by His Beatitude, Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria.
